The Ugly

There were two MAJOR problems with the 49ers today, two that threaten to derail the entire season if they don’t get fixed. And the biggest problem is that they were simple mistakes.

Tackling

Oh my goodness, the 49ers couldn’t finish a sack if it was handed to them. Officially, the 49ers got one sack, seen above in the picture, but they had like 10 opportunities. More times than not, a player would beat his man and get a one-on-one with a QB, only to completely whiff on a tackle.

If they didn’t whiff, they would get hit off by another player, and then both of them would miss out. Even in the open field, players were getting stiff-armed and pushed around. It was not a pretty sight to see.

This is something that the 49ers need to get addressed in a hurry. Finishing plays is one of the most important parts of football, and the Niners needed some help with that.

Drops

And another simple issue that got compounded as the game went on. The 49ers dropped touchdowns, first downs, and checkdowns throughout the game. There was no end to it.

Dante Pettis’s issues were touched upon earlier, but Cole Hikutini dropped a touchdown as well, and Garrett Celek was having some trouble holding on to the ball as well. There were others too, but the list would get way too long.

Sadly for the 49ers, this is one issue that has existed for them for a long time and if this is any indication, will exist for much longer.
