Safety

Free Safety: Adrian Colbert

Strong Safety: Jaquiski Tartt

Again, another 49ers position with few question marks heading into the regular season.

Both safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Adrian Colbert broke out nicely in 2017, although Tartt’s campaign ended prematurely with a broken forearm. While numerous injury setbacks tested San Francisco’s secondary over the course of last year, one bonus was opening the path for Colbert to shine his rookie season.

The Niners’ seventh-round NFL Draft pick from a year ago certainly looked the part of a rangy, hard-hitting safety atop coordinator Robert Saleh’s Cover 3 defense.

He’ll have a big responsibility placed on his shoulders this season, as Niner Noise broke down not long ago.

Depth might be a question mark for the 49ers at this position. Rookie strong safety Marcell Harris hasn’t seen much time in training camp and the preseason, and he’s coming off a missed 2017 collegiate campaign after suffering a torn Achilles.

San Francisco better hope this starting tandem stays healthy.
