Stock down: 49ers pass rush

Well, it’s simply not working is it?

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson systematically dissected the 49ers defense like what Garoppolo did to Houston, and a big part of that was the inability to get any sort of pressure on him.

This was not a problem that ended when the starts went off either.

The interior defensive line actually looks quite stout. But when it comes to the outside guys, there’s nothing to write home about.

There is honestly a legitimate question as to whether the 49ers should inquire about Oakland Raiders EDGE Khalil Mack if they want to have a Super Bowl chance this season. Elite offenses are going to have no problem with the defense at this rate, and Garoppolo won’t be able to win every shootout this season.

Mack would provide an elite rusher to base the defense around, and he’s a fit.

dark. Next. How the 49ers win by losing to Texans in the preseason

It probably would be too expensive, and next year’s draft has a lot of promising defensive talent in it, but would it be worth at least seeing what the Raiders (and Mack) want?
