Stock up: Jimmy Garoppolo

In the first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked a little bit rusty. Nothing concerning, but his brief appearance didn’t show much.

Well in this game, Garoppolo was near perfect.

Garoppolo went 10-of-12 in passing for 136 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Trent Taylor. He showed great pocket presence and poise, going through his progressions and spreading the ball around. He should have had a second scoring drive, but a pair of penalties to new 49ers center Weston Richburg pushed the 49ers back, which led to his pick.

His one error was an interception on his final play, on a throw to Dante Pettis that was a little bit too high and hard for the rookie to handle. Pettis did have a chance at it, but it definitely wasn’t an easy ball to bring down.

Overall, though, it was a great performance by Garoppolo and should help soothe any fears that he might struggle as the confirmed face of the 49ers franchise.
