Wide Receiver Dante Pettis Continues to Impress

While he only had one catch during the Niners’ first preseason game, rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis has certainly been a standout during training camp practices.

That continued Wednesday, as Pettis was a key figure during the 49ers’ first-team touchdown drive mentioned earlier.

Before that 11-on-11 drill, Pettis was a red-zone machine, according to Niners Nation’s Jennifer Lee Chan, who noted how the rookie wideout hauled in a touchdown from both Jimmy Garoppolo and second-string quarterback C.J. Beathard.

Pettis’ exceptional separation and route-running abilities could make him a key weapon within the red zone — an area in which San Francisco struggled last year. And while the Niners’ receiving corps is pretty deep, it’s becoming clear head coach Kyle Shanahan will look to use Pettis in as many ways as possible this upcoming season.
