No. 6: Running Back Frank Gore

Former head coach Jim Harbaugh was just the first installment of a mass exodus, which plagued the 49ers following 2014.

More than a few players left town, but one of the most painful was running back Frank Gore, who was only the franchise’s all-time rusher.

Gore, who was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft — the same year the Niners selected quarterback Alex Smith — had a storybook tenure with San Francisco.

Despite the majority of his 10 years with the 49ers being on bad teams.

The likely Hall of Fame running back earned the adoration of fans for his hard work, dedication and must-win attitude.

San Francisco didn’t re-sign Gore after 2014 and likely viewed his age — he was 31 years old at the time — as a critical factor in the decision.

Instead, Gore went on to sign with the Indianapolis Colts. And the blue jersey just didn’t seem to fit him the right way.
