Jimmy Garoppolo

So let’s start with the most obvious choice on this team. Nothing could make me think that Jimmy Garoppolo won’t be in the Pro Bowl conversation three years from now.

As I prefaced in the introduction, Garoppolo was an instant catalyst once he got on the field. Those were only two stats of the many that Garoppolo managed to alter. The 49ers would have ranked first in time of possession, third-down conversion percentage, yards per game, and net passing yards per game. They would have also ranked in the top three in points per game and completion percentage.

For fans looking for raw stats, Garoppolo had 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns but five interceptions in just five games plus one drive. He had two game-winning drives down the field. If you worry about Garoppolo’s accuracy, take a look at this accuracy chart by Pro Football Focus:

Garoppolo was pretty accurate, although he did throw a little behind some receivers. Regardless, there is no worry about Garoppolo.

There is an argument to be made that since there are so many talented quarterbacks, Jimmy G might be left behind. But if he puts up just 75 percent of what he did this year, he’d be a lock for the Pro Bowl.

Plus in 2021, Garoppolo would be 29 years old, in the prime of his career. Not to mention he would have four years in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme that made an MVP out of Matt Ryan with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016.

The seeds are there for Jimmy G to be racking up Pro Bowls long past 2021, and hopefully a lot sooner.
