No. 3: Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon Is Having Some Issues

Watching a lot of the camp highlights on Twitter and elsewhere, one cornerback seemingly burned on a regular basis is second-year pro Ahkello Witherspoon.

Witherspoon, who flashed plenty of promise his rookie season, has been victimized by a number of different receivers in both one-on-one drills and full 11-on-11 sessions. The one-on-one portions aren’t too concerning, as the Niners aren’t playing press coverage and receivers have more than enough room with which to operate. Plus, there is zero safety help over the top.

The 11-on-11 sessions are a little more concerning, though.

For example, you can see Witherspoon whiff on this coverage against Marquise Goodwin right at the start of the highlight reel:

Witherspoon didn’t allow a single catch during one-on-one drills during Thursday’s practice, so that’s a good sign.

Still, he’s going to be tasked with starting duties opposite Richard Sherman this season. And with opponents not yet likely willing to test the three-time first-team All-Pro, Witherspoon is expected to see a lot of passes thrown his way in 2018.
