No. 2: Will the 49ers’ Pass Rush Hold the Defense Back?

The Niner defense last season was particularly frustrating to watch because nobody could really pressure opposing quarterbacks, who took their sweet time to find receivers down the field.

In the offseason, the 49ers signed Jeremiah Attaochu, a former second-round pick who played a rotational role as pass-rusher on the Los Angeles Chargers. I doubt that Attaochu will have much of an impact unless he really steps it up, but that’s really my frustration with last year’s pass rush boiling over.

On the other hand, San Francisco has Cassius Marsh at defensive end. I’ve always liked Marsh since his rookie year on the Seahawks despite his small frame. Marsh has a great motor and brings a lot of energy on the field.

And most importantly, he loves playing for the 49ers.

Just look at his Twitter account:

Marsh says things like this all the time, and chances are he’s going to be a 49ers fan just like the rest of us long after he retires.

Marsh and Attaochu are far from household names, but they do have a lot of potential. They just need to reach it.
