Hey, anything is possible, right?
For long-shot players to make the 53-man roster, a few things need to happen. First, there needs to be a clear void earlier on the depth chart. A couple of key players underperforming, etc. Second, the last of the fringe players need to excel during practices and in camp to get noticed.
Remember, though. Last year, the 49ers got some incredible effort from Matt Breida, who turned heads at rookie minicamp and rode that momentum all the way to being the No. 2 running back on San Francisco’s depth chart.
All from an undrafted free agent.
Some names, like running back Jeremy McNichols or offensive lineman Andrew Lauderdale, could be worth watching.
Another name you might recall is defensive tackle Kentavius Street, whom the 49ers took in Round 4 of this year’s NFL Draft. Street tore his ACL early last April, so he won’t be on the 53-man roster to start the season. It’s all but guaranteed he’ll miss the entirety of 2018 too, meaning he’ll be a stash pick with the hopes of developing into something worthy in 2019 or so.

As for the rest? Well, good luck!
