13. Harry Babcock, Tight End, Georgia

1953 was not a kind year for the 49ers draft history, as this slide and the next will attest.

Tight end Harry Babcock was the first overall selection for the 49ers (although in a year and era where drafting wasn’t an exact science, so having it wasn’t the big deal it was now) and he may not have lived up to the hype.

In 30 games and three seasons he would have 16 catches for 181 yards. He would not score for his career.

There’s not really much more you can say.
