25. team. 36. . Last Rank: 23. . Seattle Seahawks

Best Pick: LB Shaquem Griffin, Central Florida

It’s impossible to state anyone else but UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin is the Seahawks’ best pick from the 2018 NFL Draft.

Griffin is an incredible story. And for those of you who don’t know (why not?), a prenatal condition caused him the loss of his left hand. No obstacle, though. He’s now in the NFL and deservedly so. It will be impossible not to root for him moving forward.

Aside from that selection, though, many of the Seahawks’ draft-day selections left us scratching our heads.

Seattle lost an awful lot of talent this offseason, many of whom were aging and becoming increasingly expensive. So one should understand what looks to be a retooling of sorts. Yet general manager John Schneider largely avoided the most pressing of team needs early in the draft.

Case in point, he used the Seahawks’ first pick (No. 27 overall) on running back Rashaad Penny of San Diego State. Penny is a solid pickup but a reach in Round 1, especially considering the needs along the offensive line, at EDGE and within the secondary. USC EDGE Rasheem Green (Round 3) was a smart add, and the thinking is he can replace the now-Philadelphia Eagles’ Michael Bennett.

Yet Seattle’s biggest weakness from 2017, the O-line, wasn’t addressed until Round 5 after selecting Ohio State tackle Jamarco Jones.

At least the Seahawks have quarterback Russell Wilson, and it looks like he’ll be under duress again this season.
