NFL power rankings: 32-team breakdown after the 2018 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
Best Pick: EDGE Sam Hubbard, Ohio State
The Cincinnati Bengals elected to solve their most pressing need, the offensive line, with their first pick by grabbing Ohio State center Billy Price at No. 21 overall. It’s a good move, a smart one, and Price looks to be healthy enough from offseason pectoral surgery. But he’ll still miss a lot of time between now and the regular season, so his immediate impact might not be fully felt.
One player Cincinnati is hoping makes an immediate impact is fellow Buckeye Sam Hubbard, who ranked out as one of those mid-range edge rushers with a lot of upside but equally worrisome bust potential.
Hubbard needs to polish his pass-rush moves to be effective at the next level. But considering how important front-seven defenders are in the AFC North right now, putting a lot of Hubbard’s shoulders is a smart move.
Going after Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson, via a trade-up, was a provocative move. He’ll need a lot of work, so the aggressive move comes with risk. If it pays out, though, great.
Still, the Bengals remain in competition with the Browns for the bottom of the division, hence the lowish NFL power rankings listing.
