NFL power rankings: 32-team breakdown after the 2018 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
Best Pick: CB Josh Jackson, Iowa
The Green Bay Packers will live and die by how healthy quarterback Aaron Rodgers is, but that doesn’t mean they would avoid solving some of their pressing needs in the secondary.
The Packers added two of the best cornerbacks in this year’s draft class, Louisville’s Jaire Alexander (Round 1) and Iowa’s Josh Jackson (Round 2). Alexander has the higher ceiling of the two but is coming off a knee injury a year ago. He’ll likely be suited for slot duties, whereas Jackson will see immediate playing time on the outside. Jackson is a bit more raw but highly talented.
Green Bay just has to hope these two pan out, unlike some of the other defensive back additions from previous years.
Vanderbilt linebacker Oren Burks (Round 3) should help out in coverage, while Southeast Missouri State LB Kendall Donnerson provides both depth and special teams ability.
The Packers also took a flier on Notre Dame wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown — a tall-bodied target for Rodgers who, if things go well enough, could be one of those gems working with a future Hall of Famer under center.
Overall, it was a good draft for Green Bay. But the team’s previous problems at cornerback prevent the Packers from moving up in our NFL power rankings.
