Last Rank: 12. . Kansas City Chiefs. 12. team. 124.

Best Pick: DT Derrick Nnadi, Florida State

The Kansas City Chiefs’ move to grab quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft led to the team not having a first-round pick in this year’s class, focusing on two helpful defensive linemen in Rounds 2 and 3.

Ole Miss’ Breeland Speaks (No. 46 overall) should help the Chiefs with their porous run defense a year ago, particularly in sub packages. That was a pretty big problem in 2017, although the sole addition of Speaks wouldn’t completely solve the issue.

So it makes sense the Chiefs brought aboard Florida State’s Derrick Nnadi a round later. He’s much better a prospect against inside runs, which likely moves Speaks to the outside.

Overall, Kansas City’s draft class was pretty blue collar. That’s important, as the Chiefs struggled with their defensive role players last season.

Although it’s going to be pretty entertaining watching K.C.’s seventh-round pick, defensive lineman Reggie McKenzie Jr. (the son of Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie), face off against the Chiefs’ division rivals this season.
