16. . Last Rank: 24. . Buffalo Bills. 23. team

Best Pick: LB Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech

The Buffalo Bills manage to move up a spot in our NFL power rankings, not because of the prospect they drafted first, but rather because of the remaining draft class they put together.

Buffalo’s first choice will get the most attention, however. And after moving up to No. 7 overall, the Bills elected to bring aboard Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen.

Sure, Allen has a cannon for an arm. But it’s hard to get excited about a QB boasting a collegiate-career completion percentage of 56.2. OK, so his supporting cast might not have been that great, and those numbers were plagued by drops. Yet it’s a reach to suggest the accuracy concerns won’t carry over to the NFL level.

It’s a big risk for Buffalo, which is why the team can’t advance any further here.

The rest of the NFL Draft went pretty well for the Bills. Grabbing Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (No. 16 overall) was great. He’ll be a valuable piece and is only 19 years old. And they should be excited about third-round defensive tackle Harrison Phillips out of Stanford.

Both Phillips and Edmunds should bolster Buffalo’s already-good defense, which is more than a necessity in the AFC East.
