Remember that part about a cornerback?

A year ago, the 49ers waited until Round 3 to grab a cornerback, selecting Ahkello Witherspoon out of Colorado at No. 66 overall. He’s now a starter. And despite adding Pro Bowl veteran Richard Sherman in free agency, it’s more than logical to look for both youth and depth at the position.

Speaking of Stanford connections, cornerback Quenton Meeks is the name here.

At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Meeks fit the tall, lanky build coordinator Robert Saleh has for his defense at this position. That, plus the college connection between Meeks, Sherman and John Lynch shouldn’t be overlooked.

Plus, this pick made a prediction piece Niner Noise ran not long ago.

Meeks has drawn comparisons from Sherman too, notably from Sherman himself. And if you want more on the possible linkup between the two, look no further than this from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco from San Francisco’s local pro day:

Yeah, this will probably happen.
