San Francisco 49ers: Final 7-round mock before the 2018 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers didn’t make any of the big-splash signings at wide receiver during free agency, indicating they’re pretty happy with their receiving corps heading into 2018.
Still, the Niners are hurting for both a red-zone threat and an eventual replacement for presumed No. 1 wideout, Pierre Garçon, who’ll turn 32 years old by the time the upcoming season starts.
At 6-foot-3 and 199 pounds, LSU’s D.J. Chark doesn’t exactly classify as a bona fide red-zone threat. He’s more in the mold of Garçon, who is also 6-foot-0 and just 10 pounds heavier. Plus, with his 4.34 40-yard dash time at the NFL Scouting Combine, Chark’s speed is indicative of what head coach Kyle Shanahan likes in his receivers.
That’s an attribute that can’t be ignored.
Additionally, Chark made Niner Noise’s list of the five most underrated prospects heading into this year’s draft.
If he falls into the third round — which Fanspeak suggested he would — the 49ers would easily jump here.
