Round 3, Pick 10: Wide Receiver D.J. Chark

If you’re wondering what happened to the 49ers’ first pick in the third round, I believe John Lynch will actually trade that one for a future second-round pick to a desperate team.

Now, onto the second pick of the third round — D.J. Chark from LSU, the same school that produced the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, two tough receivers that run incredible routes — and more importantly, love the sport of football.

Chark, while not projected to go in the first two rounds of the draft, has as high of a ceiling as both of the aforementioned receivers.

What I love most about Chark is his size, at 6-foot-3, which can make him into head coach Kyle Shanahan’s personal red-zone threat, just like what he had in Atlanta with Julio Jones. And get this: Chark ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at the combine. How often do you see a huge receiver run a 4.34-second 40-yard dash?

However, Chark is more than just intangibles. His route running is very clean and he has that explosive playmaking gene in him.

Chark would do wonders in Shanahan’s offense with Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm, and have a real chance to succeed Pierre Garcon as the team’s primary possession receiver.
