. Previous: . New York Jets. 28. team. 30.

The New York Jets fall a few spots in our NFL power rankings for a couple of considerable reasons.

First, they made free-agent cornerback Trumaine Johnson the highest-paid corner in NFL history. He’s good and will make New York’s secondary considerably better. But not five years, $72.5 million good.

And then there was the trade with the Colts, where the Jets gave up three second-round picks to move up from No. 6 to No. 3.

OK, going up to “get your quarterback” can work (just ask the Rams or the Eagles). But if it backfires, New York will assuredly be feeling a lot of heat for the next few years.

Bringing back quarterback Josh McCown and inking former Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater to a one-year “prove it” deal was smart, though. And that’s the reason why the Jets can’t be ranked any lower in our NFL power rankings this time.
