2018 NFL Draft: Two-round mock for all 32 teams across the league
By Peter Panacy
The New York Jets gave up a slew of picks to the Indianapolis Colts to move up to the No. 3 overall spot in Round 1.
There’s only one reason for this, and that’s to grab a quarterback who wouldn’t have been there at the Jets’ original No. 6-overall selection.
With both Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen off the board, New York has a decision to make between Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield. Both have their ups and downs. But in this case, the Jets go with the player whose personality and abilities can thrive in the high-pressure environment that is New York.
Mayfield’s confidence is exactly what the Jets need to get beyond what was a surprisingly better year in 2017 than most analysts thought would happen. Despite the Jets’ acquisition of Teddy Bridgewater and re-signing Josh McCown, Mayfield is still in an excellent position to wind up being a day-one starter.
