31. . Quarterback. UCLA. Josh Rosen. 2. player

There’s a bit of buzz going around the New York Giants are interested in Penn State running back Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft and not a quarterback to eventually replace the aging veteran, Eli Manning.

Not buying it. It would be one thing if the Giants didn’t have a need under center. But even a Barkley selection here would be a bit of a reach. Running backs simply don’t have the value as top-five selections anymore. Not in this era of football.

What the Giants need is a succession plan for manning, and UCLA’s Josh Rosen is it.

Rosen can make his share of mistakes. But like Sam Darnold in Cleveland, he won’t be pressed into starting right away, as New York rides out at least one more season with Manning under center.

Rare are the times the Giants land top-three picks in the draft, so new general manager Dave Gettleman has to hit a home run with this pick.

Let it be Rosen.
