San Francisco 49ers: Quick-take NFL Draft mock after free agency opening
By Peter Panacy
Yes, two offensive linemen taken consecutively. Why? Well, the 49ers have long-term question marks about left tackle Joe Staley’s advancing age and right tackle Trent Brown’s ability to stay healthy.
It appears as if the 49ers are thinking about this anyway, as DraftAnalyst.com’s Tony Pauline reported the Niners are bringing him in for a workout.
At 6-foot-9 and 310 pounds, Miller is about as big as it gets for the position. This might affect his ability to move in space, but a lot of his issues can be attributed to poor technique. Miller wouldn’t be a day-one starter, but it’s easy to view him as a shoo-in replacement for someone like Staley down the road.
Richard Sherman helps solve the 49ers’ pressing needs at cornerback. Paired with second-year pro Ahkello Witherspoon, the Niners don’t need to use a top pick to grab a corner.
Instead, finding an eventual replacement for Sherman should be on the table.
At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Texas’ Holton Hill has the ideal lanky body type for coordinator Robert Saleh’s Cover 3 defense.
He’ll need some technique work, but San Francisco wouldn’t be pressed into starting him anytime soon.
