No. 6: QB Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma)

Regardless of what people think of Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner proved to be a special quarterback at the combine.

Mayfield displayed his speed with a 4.84 40-yard-dash time and athleticism with a 29-inch vertical jump. Mayfield’s 4.28 seconds for the 20-yard shuttle was the best out of all quarterback prospects.

Although, most of the attention was toward Mayfield’s throwing drills in which the Sooners quarterback flourished. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock stated he liked the “sauce” on Mayfield’s throws.

From his workouts, Mayfield showed his quick drop and release of the ball to his receiver. He also successfully displayed great accuracy with the ball, his arm strength and footwork.

Watching his tape from college and his performance at the combine makes a serious case that Mayfield is a first-round talent. While he is smaller than most quarterbacks, Mayfield’s ability to extend plays with his quickness and accurately throw the ball may be enough for an NFL team to take a chance on him.

With several teams in the league seeking a franchise quarterback, many mock drafts project Mayfield to be taken within the top 15.
