Sean Welsh, Guard, Iowa

At 6-foot-2 weighing a fairly appropriate 300 pounds, Sean Welsh of Iowa is a tough versatile interior lineman. And while Welsh is undersized to play the tackle position in the NFL, he can easily move to center and feel at home.

I have coveted Welsh for some time now. Knowing the 49ers draft would have to start by addressing the LB position first, I had to study tape and select the best gems the later rounds can offer for the offensive line positions.

Welsh is moving up on draft boards and in a hurry. If Welsh is available when the Niners select in the third round, then we don’t waste a second by calling his name.

The 49ers need tough football players in uniform, and Sean Welsh would make a perfect fit in San Francisco.
