Linebacker Rashaan Evans was the next man up when current 49ers ILB Reuben Foster left for the 2017 NFL Draft.

And Evans could be again, this time at the pro level, depending on what happens with Foster’s off-field issues.

Evans might not have as good read-and-react instincts as Foster. But he did have a solid 74-tackle season for the Crimson Tide a year ago and has the body type to occupy both a MIKE and WILL linebacker spot, particularly in a 4-3 scheme.

NFL Draft Scout has Evans ranked as a second-round pick. The Niners, who own the New Orleans Saints’ second rounder (No. 59 overall), John Lynch would have to either bank on Evans slipping on draft day or make a move up within the round to grab him.

Evans’ performance at the NFL Scouting Combine will say a lot about what happens there.
