No. 3: Hercules Mata’Afa (Washington State)

For offensive linemen, it’s harder to block Washington State’s Hercules Mata’Afa than it is to spell his name.

Mata’Afa, unlike the first two edge prospects I mentioned, is a little undersized for his position, coming in at 6-foot-2 and 252 pounds. However, he looks like a seasoned pro on tape. Mata’Afa doesn’t just use his hands and power to consistently get to quarterbacks and running backs. He uses his excellent speed. Mata’Afa is a very fast player for his position and always seems like he is light on his feet, allowing him to wrap up on tackles more efficiently.

49ers fans have seen Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson escape the pocket for way too many years. Drafting Mata’Afa would immediately put an end to that.
