Chicago Bears. 27. team. 57. . . Previous:

Hiring former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was a great move by the Chicago Bears, prompting us to bump Chicago up a spot in our NFL power rankings.

This, from the Chicago Sun Times‘ Patrick Finley, tells you what you need to know:

"Nagy has spent the last three years developing Alex Smith — and, it should be noted, the last year also working with first-round pick Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ backup. The combination of both skills — making a veteran better but working with a rookie — could appeal to the Bears, who need someone to groom quarterback Mitch Trubisky."

The Bears moved up in last year’s NFL Draft to grab Trubisky, sending off three picks to the 49ers to make the selection at No. 2.

That’s a high investment. Considering the ineptitude of Chicago’s pass offense last year, grabbing a quarterback-friendly head coach makes perfect sense.

Now comes the challenge of providing Trubisky with some weapons. The offensive line is good. Running back Jordan Howard rushed for 1,122 yards. All that’s needed is some receiving help.

Fortunately, the Bears are slated to pick at No. 8 overall. One can almost guarantee a top-prospect wide receiver will be called on day one. The only question is which one.
