San Francisco 49ers: Top 30 all-time moments in franchise history

No. 5: The 1984 49ers
San Francisco’s 1984 squad should easily be considered the most dominant team in franchise history.
Led by quarterback Joe Montana, wide receiver Dwight Clark and defensive back Ronnie Lott, this 49ers unit was one of the most complete teams from top to bottom.
The 49ers finished the season with a 15-1 record — still a franchise best — and steamrolled into Super Bowl XIX that year and easily knocked off the AFC champion Miami Dolphins 38-16.
San Francisco had the No. 2 ranked offense in the league that season and also boasted the best defense in the NFL. Their entire defensive backfield (Lott, Eric Wright, Dwight Hicks, and Carlton Williamson) was elected to the Pro Bowl — the first time such an occurrence had happened in the NFL.
