No. 3: “Owens! Owens! Owens!

When: January 3, 1999

The 49ers and Packers have had more than a few great battles over the years. But in the late 1990s, quarterback Brett Favre and the Packers seemed to have the Niners’ number.

This looked to be the case again in the 1999 NFC Wild Card round, as quarterback Steve Young and the 49ers found themselves trailing 27-23 with just eight seconds left in regulation.

Fortunately, they were on the 25-yard line and had a young, promising wide receiver in Terrell Owens.

Owens had a rough day, dropping numerous passes thrown his way. But he caught the one that mattered most.

Nearly falling down within the pocket, Young delivered a perfect strike to Owens as he crossed the goal line amid three Packers defenders.

And play-by-play commentator Joe Starkey? Well, his call was just as legendary.

“The play in general, not just the throw, but getting people to move and making an opening that shouldn’t be there, that was a higher degree of difficulty,” Young later said, via the San Jose Mercury News.

Yeah, quite a play.
