No. 4: Passing Yards

3,925 — Ninth in the NFL

San Francisco started three quarterbacks this season, as we all might remember. Two of them, Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard, didn’t exactly produce the best of results.

Jimmy Garoppolo, on the other hand, did. Just check out the numbers, courtesy of SFGate.com’s Eric Branch:

And the numbers get even more exciting, as ESPN’s Nick Wagoner pointed out, when comparing Garoppolo’s totals to some of the 49ers greats:

All this led to the Niners boasting a total of 3,925 passing yards in 2017, which is good for ninth overall. That’s even higher than the Los Angeles Rams’ 3,831 passing yards and their top-scoring defense in the league this season.

Pretty impressive.

Garoppolo averaged 297 pass yards per contest over his five starts. Prior to him starting, the Niners’ other QBs only had two games in which they tossed for more than that number — Weeks 3 and 5 against the Rams and Indianapolis Colts, respectively.

While Garoppolo’s numbers alone this season may not put him into the “elite” category, it’s safe to say he’s got an early command of Kyle Shanahan’s system.
