49ers stock report heading into final 2017 contest versus the Rams
By Peter Panacy
Cornerback Dontae Johnson
True, No. 2 cornerback Dontae Johnson managed to log a pick-six interception off Blake Bortles, running the interception back 50 yards for a 49ers touchdown.
But that’s been about the only worthy highlight from Johnson’s efforts in recent weeks, and the remainder of his play has mostly been bad.
As was the case in Week 14 versus the Texans, Johnson was flagged multiple times on defense again, including twice the subsequent drive that helped set up a Jacksonville touchdown. The lack of coverage skills has become a major problem.

Johnson was later benched in favor of former practice squad corner Tyvis Powell in the second half.
San Francisco’s former fourth-round pick from 2013 is in the final year of his current contract and owns a 35.9 overall grade, per Pro Football Focus, which ranks 118th out of 121 qualifiers.
It’s safe to say he won’t be back next year.
