San Francisco 49ers: 2018 NFL Draft Week 15 rooting guide
By Peter Panacy
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
This actually might be a trap game for the playoff-seeking Detroit Lions, especially with quarterback Matthew Stafford (hand) dealing with an injury from just under two weeks ago.
A year ago, the 49ers and Bears were spotted pick Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, before swapping them in the trade that netted Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, while the Niners subsequently grabbed defensive end Solomon Thomas.
It’s possible both teams wind up with back-to-back picks again, but Chicago’s close-out schedule probably nets them one more win — Week 16 versus the Browns.
A win there would give the 4-9 Bears five victories on the season. And their strength of schedule is notably higher than that of the Niners (2.57), meaning this particular contest doesn’t matter quite as much.
Especially when it’s hard to find two wins on the 49ers’ remaining schedule.
But if you want some draft-position insurance, go ahead and hope the Bears pull this one off on the road in Detroit.
