San Francisco 49ers: Top 5 players who have underachieved the most in 2017

No. 5: Quarterback C.J. Beathard
This is a bit tough to dish out, especially after rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard just came off the best game of his pro career in Week 10 against the New York Giants and was just nominated for Pepsi’s NFL Rookie of the Week.
Still, Beathard isn’t exactly flashing signs of being a starting-caliber QB on a regular basis.
After taking over for quarterback Brian Hoyer in Week 6, who is no longer with the team, Beathard still ranks 32nd in both completion percentage (54.3) and passer rating (70.8) ahead of only the Cleveland Browns’ DeShone Kizer.
Sure, Beathard and Hoyer haven’t been helped by the multitude of drops and an inconsistent offensive line. But Beathard’s pocket awareness isn’t exactly the best either.
When facing pressure, Beathard’s already-low passer rating drops to 37.7, which ranks 30th out of 32 qualifiers, according to Pro Football Focus.
At least Beathard is tough, though.
