  • One can only imagine the kind of numbers running back Carlos Hyde could produce if he had a good-to-elite offensive line blocking in front of him.

Regardless, 2017 is shaping up to be Hyde’s best season as a pro.

The overall numbers don’t necessarily reflect this, as Hyde has just 592 rushing yards and four touchdowns — averaging 59.2 yards per game in the process. A lot of that, though, can be attributed to head coach Kyle Shanahan being a little too pass-happy in games and not putting the ball in Hyde’s hands.

For example, Hyde had only 12 carries during the 49ers’ 20-10 Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, while the Niners attempted 51 passes.

But Shanahan has made Hyde a more versatile weapon this season, incorporating him in the passing game.

To date, Hyde has an additional 274 yards through the air.

Hyde is a free agent this offseason, and it might be wise to re-sign the 26 year old before 2018.
