No. 3: Carson Wentz (PHI) vs. Alex Smith (KC)

Could anyone have guessed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith would have carved up the Patriots defense as much as he did to open up the season?

No? Well, you’re not alone.

Smith looked as if he was en route to an MVP season during his Week 1 bout, but he’ll take on an equally tough Philadelphia Eagles defense in Week 2. Fortunately for Kansas City, the game will be at Arrowhead Stadium.

Alex Smith

Dropping a 42-27 win over the Pats was impressive, but it wouldn’t have been possible without Smith’s 28-of-35 mark for 368 yards and four touchdowns.

Those scores weren’t the typical Smith-short-dump-off-pass types either.

The Eagles have some new bodies at cornerback this offseason, so it’s going to be interesting to see how that matchup develops. But remember, Smith is contending with a rookie quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, looking over his shoulder.

While Mahomes is Kansas City’s obvious future, Smith isn’t going to go quietly.

It will be fun watching whether or not Smith keeps the hot streak going.

Carson Wentz

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz wasn’t perfect in Week 1 over the Washington Redskins. But he wasn’t terrible either, throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns against one interception.

Simply put, the second-year pro made fewer mistakes than his Washington counterpart, Kirk Cousins.

And it’s hard to overlook this, Wentz scrambling like crazy within the pocket, only to deliver a 58-yard touchdown bomb to wide receiver Nelson Agholor:

Young quarterbacks, especially ones showing promise, are always fun to watch. And with the Chiefs star safety, Eric Berry, shelved on injured reserve, Wentz might have a bit more luck on the road in Week 2.
