The Houston Texans aggressively moved up in the NFL Draft to grab former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson in Round 1.
But Watson won’t start right away, at least not according to head coach Bill O’Brien (h/t Khadrice Rollins of Sports Illustrated). Instead, that job goes to the veteran, Tom Savage.
Savage isn’t the long-term answer. But O’Brien clearly doesn’t want to expose Watson too soon, rather ensuring the rookie’s development goes according to plan.
Armed with an elite defense and solid offensive playmakers, though, the Texans’ window for a Super Bowl run is now. And with Hurricane Harvey inspiring the country, Houston fans will want a true feel-good story in 2017.
Watson has the potential to be just that.
