. San Francisco 49ers. 26. team. 42. .

The San Francisco 49ers fall a spot in our NFL power rankings, and it’s not necessarily based off anything they’ve done wrong.

If anything, most signs from Niners training camp are good. The team’s defense, especially up front, is coming together nicely. First-round additions, defensive end Solomon Thomas and linebacker Reuben Foster, appear to be the real deal. This could be a sleeper unit this season.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer might not be a franchise-type guy. But he has developed a strong rapport with wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin.

The Niners still have plenty of question marks within their secondary, and the offensive line isn’t looking too good.

Especially after losing second-year offensive guard Joshua Garnett to a knee injury in training camp. He’ll be out at least a month, and there aren’t exactly a lot of solid options to replace him.

Like the Browns, the 49ers are on the right track and trending in the right direction. But it’s still going to be a long process for general manager John Lynch and Co.
