NFL power rankings: League-wide look for each team as preseason starts

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald’s ongoing holdout has turned into a bit of an ugly situation for the Los Angeles Rams.

There haven’t been any updates, at least by the time these power rankings were written, and it’s anyone’s guess how much this affects head coach Sean McVay’s defense as it prepares for the regular season. Donald is the anchor of that group, and the Rams would be wise to sign him to a long-term deal.

Reports from training camp suggest second-year quarterback Jared Goff is making notable strides, so that offsets the Rams from falling at all in these NFL power rankings.

That’s a good thing, but Goff will have to equate these performances on the field during actual games to earn any justification.
