The Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Dennis Erickson (2003-2004)

Offensive Coordinator: Jimmy Raye (2009-2010)

Defensive Coordinator: Bill Davis (2005-2006)

Former head coach Jim Tomsula’s one-year reign in 2015 was pretty bad. But former 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson’s tenure from 2003 through 2004 was even worse.

Erickson inherited a mess as did Tomsula, but the former certainly didn’t help his cause as San Francisco compiled a 9-23 record over his two-year stint. And it all came crashing down in 2004 with the 49ers going 2-14 on the season.

Former offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye gets the nod over the 49ers’ 2015 offensive coordinator Geep Chryst only that Raye somehow stayed employed in San Francisco for two seasons.

And Raye’s efforts generated the 27th- and 24th-ranked offenses in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Fans will likely shake when remembering Raye’s not-so genius play-calling and game plan. The 49ers offense was dull back then and lacked any sort of ingenuity despite having a handful of playmakers on the roster.

On the flip side of the ball, former defensive coordinator Bill Davis saw his unit rank No. 32 and No. 26 in points allowed between 2005 and 2006, respectively. And the Niners also ranked in the bottom three both seasons in fewest yards given up.

Not good. Not good at all.
