No. 1: Quarterback Brian Hoyer Makes the Pro Bowl

Wait, what? Quarterback Brian Hoyer makes the Pro Bowl?

That’s right. I saved the hottest hot take for last. And I won’t feel bad if it doesn’t come true.

But it sure would be something if it did.

OK, the likelihood of Hoyer making the Pro Bowl after this season is slim to none. However it’s worth pointing out Hoyer led all of the NFL in average yards per completion back in 2014 (13.7), when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

Hoyer’s offensive coordinator then? None other than head coach Kyle Shanahan. This connection is the reason the Niners brought Hoyer in to work a scheme he’s already familiar with.

San Francisco has more offensive weapons than the Browns did back in 2014, so that’s a bonus.

And what about that Pro Bowl?

More from Niner Noise

Well, here are fun stats to chew on. The last two years, Hoyer has tossed a better-than 60 percent completion rate with passer ratings of 91.4 and 98.0 in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He owned a 25-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio during that stretch too.

Not bad, but Pro Bowl worthy?

Another thing to consider. Current Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith earned a Pro Bowl nod as an alternate back in 2013. His completion percentage that year was 60.6 with a 23-to-7 TD/INT ratio and a passer rating of 89.1.

Of course, the Chiefs went 11-5 that year, so it would help if the Niners actually won some games.

If they do, and Hoyer does well enough, he makes it as an alternate.
