No. 1: New York Jets

QB Depth Chart: Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, Dane Evans

The No. 1 team on our list of NFL-worst quarterback situation is, of course, the New York Jets.

New York is likely going with a trio of Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg to kick off the regular season. Undrafted free agent Dane Evans won’t likely make the roster, but this situation is far less than ideal when compared to the others on this list.

McCown, who will turn 38 years old this summer, owns a career-78.2 passer rating. Within the AFC East, that rate drops to 59.9 — by far the worst against any NFL division.

His primary competition will be Petty, who did show a few things last year but still owns a 60.0 passer rating over his pro career and has just three passing touchdowns against seven interceptions. He’ll also be 26 years old this season, so the window to suggest development and improvement is rapidly closing.

Tack on the loss of wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and Petty’s targets aren’t going to be of the highest caliber.

Hackenberg is a developmental piece at best.

Needless to say, this position is going to be a prime weakness for a Jets team that is already bad. And they’ll be looking for a long-term solution again in 2018.
