Round 4, Pick No. 121 Overall (trade with Indianapolis)

Joe Williams, RB Utah — B-

I like this player a lot having watched a lot of Pac-12 games. Running back Joe Williams’ tape reveals a back with big plays on repeat and a knack for finding creases.

He is a talented back but fell to the fourth round due to character issues, troubles with ball control (four fumbles) and an older age entering the NFL (24 years old).

A theft incident caused him to get kicked off the team at UConn and an eventual transfer to Utah. Williams then left college football for a year, due to the emotional struggles of losing his sister, but his head coach willed him back on the team due to injuries to the position for his senior season.

He came back with a vengeance though, and his production should put to rest any questions around his hunger for the game — (1,407 yards on 210 carries, 6.7-yard average and 10 TDs last season).

Williams’ combination of speed and vision will be a welcoming addition to the Niners backfield.
