Key NFL Draft Additions: CB Marshon Lattimore, OT Ryan Ramczyk, S Marcus Williams, EDGE Troy Hendrickson

The Saints nearly landed Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster, only to have him stolen away at pick No. 31 by the 49ers.

Had New Orleans drafted Foster, pairing him with fellow first-round addition — cornerback Marshon Lattimore — the Saints defense would have seen a good enough upgrade to think this group might be on the upswing this season.

Instead, the Saints took offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk, which certainly didn’t address the team’s biggest needs.

New Orleans’ defense will be improved this season. Just not that much. And with wide receiver Brandin Cooks no longer in the picture, along with an aging quarterback Drew Brees, one has to wonder how long the Saints offense will stay potent.
