The Houston Texans are just a good quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff team.
And by legitimate, we should mean not having to make it to the postseason riding a 9-7 record in a weak AFC South.
The Texans wisely admitted the free-agent acquisition of Brock Osweiler was a mistake, jettisoning him to the Cleveland Browns this offseason. That’s a start. Now comes the tough part — finding a replacement.
Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer may not be as hyped as some of the other QBs taken in this NFL Draft so far. But he still has the intangibles to emerge as a solid starter in a couple of years.
Oh, to think what head coach Bill O’Brien would do if he had a good quarterback under center.
