2017 NFL Draft: Final Round 1 Mock for All 32 Picks
By Peter Panacy
The Philadelphia Eagles added wide receivers Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery via free agency this offseason. But it’s not likely they’re done acquiring weapons for second-year quarterback Carson Wentz.
Cornerback is an issue here. But remember, this NFL Draft class is deep. It’s a need best put off until Round 2 or later.
Instead, the Eagles look for a long-term replacement for running back Darren Sproles, who will turn 34 years old this summer.
Sproles is about as dynamic an offensive playmaker there is. And Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey has demonstrated a lot of the same traits. Both aren’t exactly every-down tailbacks. Yet each has a skill set unique to the NFL, where contributions on the ground and through the air combine to create dangerous weapons.
McCaffrey winds up being Sproles’ replacement.
