San Francisco 49ers: Recapping Each Quarterback Drafted Since 2000

2009 NFL Draft, Round 5, No. 171 Overall
I still remember fans calling in to KNBR 680 vying for former Ball State quarterback Nate Davis to get a shot at starting.
Remember, this was back when San Francisco still had no real answer under center. Alex Smith was inconsistent and often injured. J.T. O’Sullivan was, well, J.T. O’Sullivan.
Davis’ impressive 2009 preseason certainly spurred fans’ cries to see him play in the regular season. Who knows what would have happened had Davis seen the field in a regular-season contest that year. But it wasn’t hard to pick up how simple the play-calling was for San Francisco during those preseason bouts.
These exhibition games weren’t enough to justify keeping Davis around much longer. Davis was demoted to the practice squad in 2010, and he couldn’t find NFL employment elsewhere following the 2011 season.
