The San Francisco 49ers officially announced 11 free-agent signings since NFL Free Agency began. Let’s breakdown all of the contracts and take a look at the 49ers’ salary cap moving forward.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the San Francisco 49ers currently have the most cap space in the NFL with $73.9 million.
Most cap space remaining, per official NFL accounting:
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) March 14, 2017
49ers: $73.9M
Browns: $61.4M
Jaguars: $47.0M
Titans: $42.3M
Raiders: $41.6M
Since the start of free agency, the 49ers have signed 11 players to a contract.
There are contract details on nine of the 11 players.
We’ll break down the contract details for each player, including cap number, base salary and incentives.

Wide Receiver Pierre Garcon
According to Over the Cap, the full breakdown of Garcon’s is shown below. Initially, Washington Post’s Master Tesfatsion, reported that the deal was five years for $47.5 million. Also, the last three years of the five-year deal are all team options.
This means that if the 49ers don’t pick up any of these options, Garcon will be a free agent.
Pierre Garcon's deal with the 49ers: 5 yrs, $47.5M. $20M gtd w/$12M signing bonus. He can make up to $16.025M in Year 1 ($3.675M base).

Workout Bonus: $100,000
2018 Cap Number: $9,375,000
Base Salary: $6,625,000
Prorated Bonus: $2,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000

2019 Cap Number: $8,400,000
Base Salary: $5,650,000
Prorated Bonus: $2,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2020 Cap Number: $11,300,000

Prorated Bonus: $2,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2021 Cap Number: $12,000,000
Base Salary: $9,250,000
Prorated Bonus: $2,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
The big takeaway from the Garcon contract is that he gets a $12 million signing bonus, there’s $20 million guaranteed and 2019, 2020 and 2021 are all option years.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer
According to Over the Cap, the full breakdown of Hoyer’s contract is shown below. Originally, it was reported that Hoyer received a two-year contract for $12 million, but now let’s breakdown the details.
Aaron Wilson additionally added some of the numbers on the incentives for Hoyer.
2017 Cap Number: $5,275,000
Base Salary: $2,950,000
Prorated Bonus: $2,000,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $150,000
Incentives: $1,500,000
2018 Cap Number: $6,500,000
Base Salary: $3,950,000
Prorated Bonus: $2,000,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $150,000
Incentives: $5,000,000
The key takeaway from Hoyer’s contract is that it’s team-friendly and the incentives shoot up in 2018. It’s set up in such a way that the 49ers expect him to be the backup in 2018.

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk
Juszczyk was one of the most important free-agent signings for the 49ers this offseason. It was first reported that the 49ers’ FB is going to make an average of $5 million per year.
Many people overreacted and thought it was crazy to pay a fullback that much, but with more details on the contract, it made sense.
Kyle Juszczyk 49ers deal $21M, $5M bonus, $9.75M gtd, salaries $2M (gtd), $2.75M (full gtd April 1, 2018), $4.2M, $5.05M; 2019, 2020 options
— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 13, 2017
We have the full breakdown, taken from Over the Cap.
2017 Cap Number: $3,750,000
Base Salary: $2,000,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2018 Cap Number: $4,500,000
Base Salary: $2,750,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2019 Cap Number: $5,950,000
Base Salary: $4,200,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2020 Cap Number: $6,800,000
Base Salary: $5,050,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $400,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
The key takeaway from Juszczyk’s contract is that 2019 and 2020 are option years, but I think he’ll be on the roster for the full four years of the contract. Also, only $9,750,000 is guaranteed, so it isn’t as crazy as we originally thought.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith
The most questionable signing that John Lynch has made so far is LB Malcolm Smith. Coming from the Oakland Raiders, many were surprised to hear Smith was due to make $26.5 million over five years.
2020 and 2021 are option years, meaning it’s realistically a three-year contract. Taken from Over the Cap, here’s the full contract details.
2017 Cap Number: $3,684,375
Base Salary: $2,000,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2018 Cap Number: $4,700,000
Base Salary: $3,000,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2019 Cap Number: $5,450,000
Base Salary: $3,750,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2020 Cap Number: $6,100,000
Base Salary: $4,400,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2021 Cap Number: $6,550,000
Base Salary: $4,850,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,400,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
The major takeaway from Smith’s contract is that the last two are option years, making it a three-year deal. This is pretty similar to what Pierre Garcon received, but it was still surprising to see Malcolm Smith make this much.

Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin
Another wide receiver that the 49ers signed last week was Marquise Goodwin. His contract was initially reported to be two years, $8 million, which was as expected for a receiver of his caliber.
Marquise Goodwin $6M, $2.5M signing bonus, $4.45M gtd, salaries $1.95M (gtd), $1.45M; $1M incentive annual, $50K workout incentive annual
— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 13, 2017
Let’s breakdown this contract, taken from Over the Cap. There is also an annual incentive of $1 million.
2017 Cap Number: $3,250,000
Base Salary: $1,950,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $0
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2018 Cap Number: $2,750,000
Base Salary: $1,450,000
Prorated Bonus: $1,250,000
Roster Bonus: $0
Workout Bonus: $50,000
This contract is exactly what a receiver like Goodwin should be paid. Not a lot of guaranteed money and a low average annual value, make this a solid contract.

Quarterback Matt Barkley
Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported QB Matt Barkley signed with the 49ers for a two-year contract:
#49ers gave Matt Barkley a 2-year, $4 million deal with $500K to sign. No other guarantees, but solid backup QB money.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 14, 2017
A solid contract for a backup quarterback, but let’s take a finer look at the numbers, according to Over the Cap.
2017 Cap Number: $1,809,375
Base Salary: $1,400,000
Prorated Bonus: $250,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
2018 Cap Number: $2,050,000
Base Salary: $1,500,000
Prorated Bonus: $250,000
Roster Bonus: $250,000
Workout Bonus: $50,000
John Lynch signed the backup quarterback to a very reasonable contract. He’ll likely be adding at least two more quarterbacks, but this is a solid contract to begin with.

Wide Receiver Aldrick Robinson
The 49ers went ahead and added a third wide receiver to the mix in Aldrick Robinson. His deal was similar to Goodwin’s but at a lesser value.
Aldrick Robinson 49ers deal: $4M, $300K signing bonus, salaries $1.25M ($200K gtd), $1.65M; $18,750 per game active, $1M stats incentives
— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 14, 2017
Below is the breakdown of his contract, thanks to Over the Cap.
2017 Cap Number: $1,800,000
Base Salary: $1,250,000
Prorated Bonus: $150,000
Roster Bonus: $300,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
2018 Cap Number: $2,200,000
Base Salary: $1,650,000
Prorated Bonus: $150,000
Roster Bonus: $300,000
Workout Bonus: $100,000
The contract shows that the 49ers aren’t committed to Robinson in the long-term future. They’re taking a flyer on him for two years and let’s see what Kyle Shanahan can get out of him.

Kicker Robbie Gould
After the 49ers had parted ways with kicker Phil Dawson, John Lynch wasted no time in picking up another one. He added Robbie Gould for a $4 million contract.
Robbie Gould 49ers deal: $4M, $500K signing bonus, $1M gtd, salaries $1.5M ($500K of it full gtd), $2M
— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 12, 2017
Thanks to Over the Cap, here are the details on Gould’s contract.
2017 Cap Number: $1,750,000
Base Salary: $1,500,000
Prorated Bonus: $250,000
Roster Bonus: $0
Workout Bonus: $0
2018 Cap Number: $2,250,000
Base Salary: $2,000,000
Prorated Bonus: $250,000
Roster Bonus: $0
Workout Bonus: $0
Every team needs a kicker and the 49ers filled the need with K Robbie Gould.

Tight End Logan Paulsen
The 49ers added a blocking tight end to the mix in Logan Paulsen. Having familiarity with Kyle Shanahan helped him land in San Francisco. He was reported to get a $1 million deal.
Logan Paulsen 49ers deal: $1M, $125K signing bonus, $775,000 salary, $100K total per game active roster bonuses
