According to Over the Cap, the full breakdown of Hoyer’s contract is shown below. Originally, it was reported that Hoyer received a two-year contract for $12 million, but now let’s breakdown the details.

2017 Cap Number: $5,275,000

Base Salary: $2,950,000

Prorated Bonus: $2,000,000

Roster Bonus: $400,000

Workout Bonus: $150,000

Incentives: $1,500,000

2018 Cap Number: $6,500,000

Base Salary: $3,950,000

Prorated Bonus: $2,000,000

Roster Bonus: $400,000

Workout Bonus: $150,000

Incentives: $5,000,000

The key takeaway from Hoyer’s contract is that it’s team-friendly and the incentives shoot up in 2018. It’s set up in such a way that the 49ers expect him to be the backup in 2018.
