The 49ers Will Still Be in the Quarterback Market in Upcoming NFL Draft

Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech
“A little bit Magic. A bit of Favre.”
Arizona State’s defensive coordinator Keith Patterson once uttered those words about Mahomes.
Those are lofty comparisons to live up to, but Mahomes does not seem fazed one bit.
In fact, the former Texas Tech gunslinger may lack experience operating in five or seven-step drops, but he doesn’t lack confidence, recently telling Chris Emma of CBS Chicago, “I feel like I’m going to be one of the best quarterbacks in this class, if not the best.”

Now some may think comparisons to Favre are pretty lofty, but Mahomes definitely has a flare for the dramatic.
And in his record-setting performance against the Oklahoma Sooners, in which he threw for 734 yards and seven touchdowns, Mahomes showed why those comparisons have some validity.
After a solid combine showing, the stock on Mahomes has been on the incline. Kyle Shanahan must have taken note of his strong arm and natural throwing ability.
With time and proper coaching, Mahomes could very well be reigned in enough to make him a viable NFL starter with big-play ability.
